What is Semi-Permanent Make-Up (SPMU)?
SPMU, also known as micro-pigmentation or cosmetic tattooing has been successfully undertaken for many years by both celebrities and busy women, creating a beautiful and fresh make-up look that lasts.
The procedure involves implanting tiny particles of coloured pigment into the dermal layer of the skin, to replicate make-up, using a state-of-the-art machine designed specifically for the cosmetic market. These digital systems and pigments are very different to machines and inks used in conventional tattoo studios.
The treatment is carried out in accordance with strict health and safety protocols using single use sterile needle cartridges. Your therapist will offer you the very best treatment, which will be both subtle and effective.
How long does SPMU last?
SPMU is visible for up to two years and fades over time, although the pigment particles remain in the skin indefinitely. To keep a fresh appearance, clients will have to have top-ups every 6 to 18 months depending on many contributing factors such as age, exposure to chlorine, skin products used, sun exposure, medication, skin type etc.
Who can benefit from SPMU?
- Clients with hectic lifestyles and little time i.e. busy mums and business women
- Those who suffer from Alopecia
- People who experience allergic reactions to conventional make up
- Anyone who desires freedom from conventional make up
- Athletes and swimmers
- People who seek a correction of a facial feature
Your natural beauty will be enhanced from first thing in the morning to last thing at night and whether you are a busy mum, business woman or on holiday, in a swimming pool, at the gym or simply sun-bathing, Semi-Permanent Make-up could transform you by giving you more confidence.
How many sessions will I need?
An initial consultation will be required, during which all aspects of your treatment will be discussed as well as your expectations. A decision will be made on pigment colours and design type whilst a patch test will be carried out. Once you have decided to proceed, you will pay a one-off payment and book in two sessions approximately 4 to 8 weeks apart. The patch test must be carried out at least 24 hours before the first session. A minimum of two sessions is required before the procedure is deemed complete; occasionally three treatments may be required, but this will be assessed on a case by case basis and may incur an additional charge.
What should I expect after the first session?
Immediately after the procedure the treated area will be intensely pigmented and may appear slightly swollen. This area will then begin to heal, forming a natural protective barrier that will flake off after 7 to 14 days. During this time the pigment will fade between 40% and 60% which is why a second treatment is required to complete the look. It is recommended that clients wait at least 14 days after treatment before attending a big event or going on holiday. After this time, if the area is going to be exposed to the sun, it is recommended that a high factor sun cream is used to prevent too much fading. It takes 4 to 8 weeks for the area to heal completely before the second treatment can be carried out.
Advances in the industry now mean that SPMU has many options available to the client. From soft powder effect eyebrows to single hair replication, lip blush in an array of colours giving definition and balance, or eyeliner which is as fine or as bold as you desire. The end result is tailored to the clients requirements, be it a very natural or a more obvious make-up look.
Anyone who wishes to emphasise their brows, even out brow shape or fill in areas of sparse hair will love this procedure. Time is saved never having to pencil in brows again. This is perfect for clients who suffer from alopecia, have sparse hair due to over tweezing or naturally very fine brows. Once the procedure is complete you can swim, play sports or just lie in the sun without the worry of losing your brows. Choose between a soft textured look or hair simulation.

Lip liner and Full Lip Colour
For a truly subtle and beautiful cosmetic effect, semi-permanent make-up is an excellent way of enhancing the shape and colour of your lips. Your lips will look fuller and shapelier, and will add instant definition. Subtle corrections can be made to thin, uneven or unsymmetrical lips and the size and shape can be altered as desired. Facial lines around the mouth are camouflaged and lipstick bleed is eliminated. Lip enhancements are a wonderful way of subtlety replacing lost pigment especially to the outer border of the lips where is most commonly fades as we age. The pigment is blended with the natural lip to ensure no harsh outlines. For a more striking effect, stronger colour can be applied.
